Which energy ratings should you compare?
Start with the exact window model and configuration in the quote. Two windows with the same frame material or number of panes can have different ratings. Ask the contractor to identify the complete product, including the operating style, dimensions and glass option, so your comparison describes what would actually be installed.

Double or triple glazing is one part of the choice.
Ask for the rating and price difference between the two proposed products. Write down the model numbers rather than comparing “double” and “triple” as if each described one standard window. Keep the installation method and finishing the same when comparing those prices. The three-quote comparison sheet gives you a place to record the differences.
If operating style is still undecided, compare casement, awning, sliding and fixed windows first. A product’s certification does not establish that the proposed installation is right for every opening.
Are there window rebates for Brantford homeowners?
The Home Renovation Savings assessment stream currently lists $100 per eligible rough opening. Its process starts with a home energy assessment before work and requires at least two qualifying upgrades, followed by a final assessment. Eligibility is determined by the program.
For windows to count as one qualifying upgrade, the published requirements call for at least three window rough openings replaced with eligible ENERGY STAR certified models. Multiple panes within one rough opening do not automatically mean multiple rebates. Window and door upgrades together count as one measure, so replacing more windows does not by itself meet the two-upgrade requirement.

The City’s Ontario Renovates information includes windows among potentially eligible repairs, subject to household, property and program requirements. Funding is limited and is described as a forgivable loan, not a universal window rebate. The City currently lists October 31, 2026 as the application deadline for its 2026–2027 funding.

Five things to settle before ordering.
- Name the problem. Describe the room, when it feels uncomfortable and what you have noticed. Do not diagnose every draft or moisture issue as a need for full replacement.
- Record the product. Get the model, glass, ratings and operating style in the written proposal.
- Separate product and installation scope. Compare the frame work, sealing, trim and disposal as well as the window itself.
- Check approvals and incentives first. Resolve any assessment sequence and Brantford permit or heritage questions before authorizing work.
- Compare the full amount payable. Keep taxes, optional work and any unapproved rebate separate. Ask who handles each application or approval.

Does ENERGY STAR mean I will receive a rebate?

Compare the exact model offered, its ratings, warranty terms and installation scope. A brand name alone does not tell you whether two written proposals describe the same product or work.
